As you know, Art Deco is the name of a design style. It is named after the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts held in Paris in 1925. The features of this style are that it is very functional and combines a number of artistic elements such as cubism and Eastern art. Art Deco was very popular from the 1920s to the 1930s. Since its re-evaluation in the 1960s, it has become popular again and has enjoyed the patronage of many people. It is quite a mystery as to why Old Noritake did not appear in the history of Art Deco until recently.
Some of the pottery by Viktor Schreckengost, Charles Catteau and Clarice Cliff in the 1930s is excellent. These works greatly influenced pottery in the United States. However, there are very few excellent porcelains, except for those produced as a single piece of Art Deco. Some excellent porcelain works can be seen in French and German figurines, such as those by Rosenthal. Luster decoration, which is the most prominent feature of Art Deco, was used extensively in Old Noritake's Art Deco products. Thus, the craftsmanship in these pieces is quite exquisite and they are superior to these other porcelain wares.
Superb, rare and very popular Old Noritake Art Deco pieces are presented in Chapter A as Super Deco. We hope you will rediscover Old Noritake Art Deco. We think that the pieces in this web site will soon be re-evaluated and recognized as the pinnacle of Art Deco history.
